I was just hoping to find some scrap wood or an old stool to fix up. But when I reached into a box and pulled out a guitar---a real, full-sized, six-string acoustic---I actually said out loud, "Is this a prank?"

It wasn't. The wood was scratched but solid. The strings were intact. I didn't even play guitar... until that day. I taught myself a few chords, then some songs. Now it's my go-to when I need to unwind.

Crazy how a curbside find can become a new hobby.
