BATTERY BRANDS RANKED FROM WORST TO BEST

13. Great Value

Walmart's house brand, Great Value, didn't score high in most battery reviews. There's limited test data available, but what we found shows these AA batteries underperform at low power usage levels. At around 1 to 1.5 amps---what a basic LED flashlight might use---their performance becomes more average. In high-drain tests up to 3 amps, they held up reasonably well.

The discharge pattern of Great Value batteries is typical for alkalines: a slow, steady drop-off in power that steepens significantly under higher loads. While they don't offer the best performance, they're priced affordably and work just fine for low-drain devices like TV remotes and clocks.
