Ten-Codes: The OG Text Speak

Before emojis, there were ten-codes. Created in the ’30s to speed up communication, these numbers still get tossed around today.

Here are a few classics:

• 10-4 = Got it
• 10-9 = Say that again
• 10-23 = Stand by
• 10-100 = Gotta pee

They were even used by cops until 2009—until everyone started using their own versions and things got messy.
