“Eyeballs” usually means headlights—but it can also mean “I saw something.” Like, “I eyeballed a polar bear” (aka cop car).

If a truck’s headlight is out, it’s got a “black eye.” It’s a quick and easy way to call out what you’re seeing up ahead.
