While fruit is usually a great snack for people with arthritis, there's one type you should avoid: fruit packed in heavy syrup. This sugary syrup can trigger the release of proteins called cytokines, which are linked to inflammation in the body. While this doesn't mean that all fruit is off-limits, you should steer clear of canned or dried fruits that are swimming in syrup. Fresh fruit or fruit dried without added sugar are much better options.
