How can you tell if a pipe is PVC?

Correct Incorrect PVC pipes often have markings on them indicating the material. They are usually white or off-white in color, lightweight compared to metal pipes, and have a smooth surface texture. PVC is an insulator and does not conduct electricity, but this is not the most practical way to identify it. PVC pipes are not very flexible or bendable compared to some other types of pipes like PEX. PVC does not have a metallic sheen as it is a plastic material.
