The 11 Worst Dog Food Brands in America
5.Iams Dog Food

Parent company: Mars/Spectrum Brands
Founded: 1946
Questionable ingredients: Unspecified meat byproducts, corn, brewer yeast, beet pulp
Named after its founder, animal nutritionist Paul Iams, the brand once enjoyed a reputation for premium pet nutrition. However, in 2013, several Iams dog food products were recalled due to the risk of mold contamination. One ingredient of concern is beet pulp, a low-cost sugar beet byproduct that has been associated with cases of dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs. Additionally, brewer yeast may not be ideal for pets with compromised immune systems. Originally owned by Procter & Gamble, Iams is now under the Mars umbrella, though the brand is controlled by Spectrum Brands in the European market.
