6.Kal Kan

Parent company: Mars
Founded: 1936
Questionable ingredients: Corn, corn gluten meal, soybean meal, wheat middlings, unidentified bone meal, BHA
Kal Kan's current dog food formulas include a variety of artificial additives and low-quality fillers, such as wheat byproducts and corn derivatives. Reports have surfaced over the years linking the brand's products to kidney issues in dogs. Additionally, some formulas may contain a controversial synthetic form of vitamin K, which has been tied to liver damage, allergic reactions, and the destruction of red blood cells. Originally launched during the Great Depression as a company that processed horse meat, Kal Kan was acquired by Mars in 1968. Most of its dog food offerings have since been rebranded under the Pedigree label.
