Why does Ford no longer make their own engines?
Performance Is No Longer the Priority (At Least for Most Buyers)

Sad but true: Most people aren’t interested in horsepower anymore. They want quiet rides, good fuel economy, and cool infotainment.
Ford has data showing customers rarely ask about the engine—unless they’re buying a Mustang or an F-150 Raptor. For everyone else, it's about convenience and value, not 0-60 times.
So, why go through the trouble of designing a high-revving engine that most buyers won’t care about? Instead, Ford is focusing on “good enough” powertrains, and spending more on features people actually ask about—like bigger touchscreens and better driver-assist systems.
